Insurance can be a confusing and stressful topic! Our aim is to help you understand your insurance fully before diving into treatment. Lets go over some insurance terms that you need to know.
What is a deductible? A deductible is the amount that is paid out of pocket by the insured. Your insurance WILL NOT cover any charges until you meet your deductible. Sometimes individuals can have high deductibles, which can mean that the entire cost of physical therapy can be your responsibility! We want to help everyone regain their health, so if your cost are going to be too high, let us know and we can set up a payment plan.
What is a Copay? This is a fixed amount that you must pay for a covered service, as defined by your health plan. Copays usually vary for different plans and types of services. Typically, you must pay this amount at the time of service. Again, copay amounts are fixed—which means you will always pay the same amount, regardless of visit length. In some cases, copayments go toward your deductible.
What is co-insurance? Your Co-Insurance is the percentage of shared cost that you pay. You will begin paying this AFTER you have met your deductible. Typically this is 15, 20, or 30% of the cost of each visit. We collect co-insurance during each visit to reduce your bill. For example, if you have a 15% co-insurance, we will collect $15 at each visit. This DOES NOT mean that the amount collected covers your full cost. We will bill you for the remaining amount that you owe or send you a refund check should you overpay.
How many visits do I have? Your insurance has predetermined the number of visits to a physical therapist you can have. This number varies from plan to plan. If you go over your allowed amount, you will be responsible for the amount due. Pre-certification can be obtained to have more visits approved if therapy is considered a medical necessity. You may be asked to return to the doctor to obtain another referral.
Direct access to physical therapist is not performed at this clinic and Alabama physical therapists are REQUIRED to have a referral from your health provider. Please know that your referral from your provider is accepted at any physical therapist you choose. You do not have to go to the one they suggest.
